Placements Myths Reality Checks
Session Highlights
Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School, Tathawade, successfully hosted an insightful session on “Placements: Myths and Reality Check” on 11th September 2025. The speaker, Mr. Manoj Razdan, Business Manager – Central Region, Britannia Industries, shared his deep industry experience and practical insights into campus placements, career building, and the journey beyond securing a job.
The session aimed to address misconceptions students often carry about placements and highlighted the skills, mindset, and preparation required to succeed in the highly competitive corporate world.
Mr. Razdan emphasized that while the brand of a B-school may help in securing interviews, it is ultimately the student’s skills, acumen, and attitude that determine success. He shared real placement statistics from reputed institutions to break the myth of “guaranteed placements” and urged students to see their two years of management education as a battlefield where consistent learning and resilience are key.
Students were also guided on common mistakes to avoid such as complacency after the first semester, ignoring real-world skills, or treating internships as mere projects. He explained how internships should be approached as extended job interviews, with ownership, initiative, and a focus on the bigger picture.
The speaker further stressed the importance of:
• Soft skills development – communication, presentation, storytelling, leadership.
• Certifications & continuous learning – tools like Six Sigma, SQL, Power BI, Google Digital Marketing, etc.
• Case competitions & GD practice – to sharpen problem-solving and teamwork.
• Following industry trends & market updates – to build business acumen.
• Networking via LinkedIn & alumni connects – for long-term career leverage.
Through inspiring real-life examples like Nikhil Kamath (Zerodha) and Gaurav Munjal (Unacademy), Mr. Razdan highlighted that placements are just the starting point of a career journey success lies in continuous growth, reinvention, and execution
Key Outcomes of the Activity:
• Understand the difference between myths and realities of placements.
• Recognize the value of internships as career gateways.
• Learn the importance of soft skills, networking, and certifications.
• Gain strategies to prepare effectively for GDs, interviews, and case studies.
• Realize that placements are not the end goal, but the beginning of a career journey
