Centre for Case Development (CDC) of Dr. D.Y. Patil B-School is committed towards emerging as a repository of quality as well as context-driven cases documented from different industries and management areas. Centre for Case Development strives for promoting a culture of case development and motivating academicians and practitioners for developing cases, caselets, video cases and case interviews. Our constant efforts are to provide platform for publishing developed cases, caselets, video cases and case interviews. The motive behind establishing Centre for Case Development is to allow the learner to apply ideas and insights from theory to the real-life issues and problems contained in the case. This assists the learner to obtain a deeper understanding of all the relevant factors in a particular problem situation as well as gain insights into the finer nuances of a topic in a particular field of business and management.

  • To ensue requisite capacitation building activities as a Case Development Centre at Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School.

    Brief Report

    The Case Development Cell of Dr. D.Y. Patil B School organized “A CASE ANALYSIS COMPETITION- CURIOSO 2024” for all the students to showcase their talent and win exciting prizes. "CURIOSO 2024" brought together aspiring minds from diverse backgrounds to participate in a stimulating case analysis competition. Hosted with the aim of fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the event garnered enthusiastic participation from individuals and teams eager to showcase their analytical prowess.

    Round 1:

    In the inaugural round of "CURIOSO 2024," participating teams were tasked with analysing case studies provided by the organizing committee. Each team, comprising 2 to 4 members, meticulously dissected the given cases, identifying key issues, and proposing innovative solutions. With an emphasis on depth of analysis and clarity of presentation, teams submitted their comprehensive case analyses within the stipulated timeframe.

    Round 2:

    Following rigorous evaluation, a select few teams were shortlisted to advance to the second round of the competition. These finalists demonstrated exceptional analytical skills and strategic thinking in their case analyses. In Round 2, shortlisted teams were given the opportunity to present their case studies before a panel of esteemed judges and fellow participants. This round served as a platform for teams to articulate their insights, defend their recommendations, and engage in constructive dialogue with the audience.

    "CURIOSO 2024" proved to be a resounding success, providing participants with a platform to showcase their analytical skills, collaborate with peers, and engage in intellectual discourse. Through the case analysis competition, attendees honed their problem-solving abilities, gained valuable insights, and expanded their professional networks. As the curtains drew to a close on this enriching event, participants departed with a renewed sense of inspiration and a deeper appreciation for the art of case analysis.

    The best analysis and presentation were awarded first, second and third prize - a cash prize of 25,000(INR), 15,000(IN) and 10000(INR) respectively.

    Brief Report

    The competition received an overwhelming response from PAN India & received 65 registration entries for 1st round. Real Time business case study was given to students for analysis. 44 teams submitted their analysis. Based on the Case analysis submitted by the students, 18 teams were shortlisted for the final round of competition. Case analysis was evaluated on the following parameters by the panel of judges.

    1. Identification of main issues/ problems(10)
    2. Analysis of the key issues with Literature/ research(10)
    3. Alternative solutions/ options provided(10)
    4. Observations and/or recommendations given for effective implementation of solutions(10)
    5. Q & A (10)

    Out of 18 teams, 3 teams were selected as Winners, 1st Runner Up & 2nd Runner Up. They received cash prize of Rs. 25000/-, Rs. 15000/- & Rs.10000/- respectively.

    Description:

    To promote the culture of Case Based Teaching among faculty members, Dr. D. Y. Patil Business school has organized a two days’ workshop on “Case based methodology: A Pedagogical Tool for Teaching” on Thur,24th March & Fri, 25th March 2022. Dr. Salim Shamsher, Associate Dean- NMIMS, Navi Mumbai conducted the workshop.

    The Workshop highlighted the significance of the case method in the learning process. It was intended for all those interested in using case studies as a teaching tool, as well as interested in research and development of such teaching cases.

    The workshop started with an inaugural ceremony. Hon’ble Dr. Somnath Patil Secretary, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth & Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society graced the event along with Dr. Amol Gawande, Director of DYPBS.

    Dr. Salim Shamsher shared valuable insights into the case-based methodology. He covered the following areas on the day I

    • Role of faculty as a facilitator of student learning and engagement
    • The nature of interdisciplinary education
    • What does the case look like?
    • Two approaches for delivering the cases: analytical & conceptual approach
    • Need of extra information
    • How do you prepare for teaching using cases?
    • How do I prepare & study for the case?

    Session on the day I ended with Q and A session.


    On day two of the workshop, Dr. Salim covered the following areas

    • Role of teachers
    • How to be prepared for teaching using cases
    • Students learning
    • Judging parameters for evaluation of students
    • What skills students will develop while studying cases

    He also spoke about the lecture method, Group discussions. He highlighted then the difference between GD & Debate. He also stated teachers should lecture while discussing the case, as its case discussion and not the lecture delivery.

    He also covered stages for developing a good case study. This was followed by developing a good teaching note.

    Day two also ended with the Q & A session.

    Participants were curious to understand various aspects of teaching cases, developing cases, and asked several questions.

    A total of 176 participants participated in the workshop which made it a huge success.
